Barracuda Baits 2.5" Bass Urchin

More body. More presence. Still a finesse bait.

The Barracuda Baits 2.5" Bass Urchin steps up from the smaller crossover profile with a 3/4" center core and 28 radiating tentacles. It gives bass anglers a broader target without turning the bait into an oversized presentation, making it a strong fit for Ned rigs, drop shots and lightly weighted Texas rigs.

Overall Size 2.5 inches
Center Core 3/4 inch
Tentacles 28
Fishing Style Bass Finesse
How We'd Fish It

Three bass-finesse presentations fit this size especially well

Ned Rig

Put a different profile on bottom

A finesse Ned-style head keeps the 2.5" Urchin compact around rock, gravel, hard-bottom transitions and other places where bass are feeding close to the bottom. The round center and radiating tentacles give fish a much different look than a traditional straight Ned bait.

Drop Shot

Hold the profile in the strike zone

A drop shot lets the full 2.5" profile stay in front of suspended or bottom-oriented bass. Small shakes and line movement can work the tentacles without forcing the bait to travel far from the fish.

Light Texas Rig

Take the Urchin into cover

Rig it lightly and weedless around docks, sparse grass, wood and other cover where an exposed hook is less practical. Keep the overall package compact and use only enough weight to maintain control.

Why 2.5 Inches?

More center-body presence without leaving finesse territory

Choose the 2.5" when:

  • Bass are the primary target.
  • You want more center-body presence than the 2.25" Barracuda Urchin.
  • Ned, drop-shot or light Texas presentations are the plan.
  • You want a substantial Urchin silhouette without jumping to an oversized bait.
  • Fish are pressured but still willing to eat a moderate-size finesse target.

Choose the 2.25" when:

  • You want better crossover between crappie and bass.
  • Smaller forage is driving the bite.
  • Light crappie or finesse jigheads are part of the presentation.
  • You want the same 28-tentacle architecture around a smaller 5/8" center core.
  • A slightly smaller overall target better matches the fish or conditions.
Dial It In

Let the rig control the bait without overpowering it

Start light

Even with the larger 3/4" center core, this is still a finesse-profile soft plastic. Start with enough weight to maintain depth and control instead of automatically choosing the heaviest head or sinker you can fish.

For more on head shape, hook fit and fall rate, see the Qwik Fishing Jig Head Guide .

Let pauses do some of the work

Twenty-eight tentacles give the bait plenty of shape around the center body. On a Ned rig, drop shot or lightly weighted Texas rig, short movements followed by pauses can keep the bait working without pulling it quickly out of the strike zone.

2.5" overall size vs. 3/4" core

The Barracuda 2.5" Urchin has a center body measuring approximately 3/4", while the complete profile reaches about 2.5" overall.

That distinction matters because Urchin makers do not all describe size the same way. Qwik Fishing uses the approximately 2.5" overall profile as the primary size so it can be compared more naturally with other Urchin-style baits.

Picking a Color

Barracuda offers the 2.5" Urchin in multiple color patterns, and additional colors may be added over time. Start by matching water clarity, forage and the amount of contrast you need fish to see.

Natural and darker patterns are good starting points when you want a familiar forage look or stronger silhouette. Brighter or higher-contrast colors can help when visibility is poor or you want the bait to stand out.

Want A Smaller Profile?

Step down to the Barracuda 2.25" Urchin

Same 28-tentacle design. Smaller 5/8" center core.

The 2.25" Barracuda Urchin keeps the same basic 28-tentacle architecture in a smaller overall package. It is the better choice when you want more crappie crossover, lighter finesse rigging or simply a smaller target.
