How & Where Doug's Finesse Jig w/ Eyes Excels

The compact skirted head and lifelike 3D eye make this jig stand out when bass and walleye have seen everything. It shines whenever you need to downsize without sacrificing action — the full silicone skirt breathes and pulses on the fall and during a slow drag, giving fish a reason to commit. Fish it on light to medium-light gear and let the bait do the work.

Finesse / Compact Jig

When/Where: Post-front conditions, clear water, heavily pressured fisheries, or any time bass are being picky. Equally at home on rocky points, gravel flats, and sparse grass edges for walleye.

How: Tie direct to 6–10 lb fluorocarbon or light braid with a fluorocarbon leader. Cast past the target, let it fall on semi-slack line to maximize skirt action, then work it back with short hops or a slow drag.

Why: The compact profile and 3D eye create a believable, non-threatening presentation that triggers bites when larger jigs get ignored. The skirt flares and collapses naturally, mimicking a fleeing crawfish or small baitfish.

Tuning: Add a small craw, chunk, or finesse grub trailer to bulk up slightly in cooler water when fish want a slower fall.

Swim Jig

When/Where: Sparse vegetation, open water, and along wood or rock edges where a slow-rolled presentation draws reaction strikes. Works especially well for walleye over hard bottom.

How: Steady retrieve just fast enough to keep the jig off bottom, with occasional pauses. Pair with a paddle-tail or boot-tail swimbait trailer to add thump and a little extra profile.

Why: The compact skirted head tracks true on a steady retrieve and the skirt pulses with every twitch of the rod tip, giving the bait a lifelike, baitfish-imitating action without any extra hardware required.
